Needed: A creative mint

Wow…I’m tired today. I haven’t slept through the night in a while and it’s starting to get to me. I have been sitting, staring at the computer screen, wondering what to do. My head is all fuzzy and all I can think about is napping. I was just about to give up when I saw the latest pics posted on Flickr by Leslie from the insanely gorgeous blog, a creative mint.

They are so inspiring and I quickly perked up as I perused her lovely portfolio of work. She is entirely to blame for my new found obsession with ribbon, fabric, string and buttons. I don’t sew and don’t plan on starting anytime soon but I just love how pretty these objects can be…anyway…I had to share with you.

I am consistently amazed by her ability to create such gorgeous color stories. If you’ve never been to her blog, go check it out. Her dazzling style and attention to detail is always refreshing. Just what I needed on a sleepy, rainy Monday afternoon. Thanks Leslie!!

I think I better go brew a strong cup of tea!

Texas Garden Delights

Just got back from The Little Winter sale! It was such a beautiful show. I even got to meet Abby from Abby Try Again! It was so nice to meet her after following her blog this past year. She was super sweet and I purchased a print that I fell in love with ages ago. Looking through her gorgeous photos inspired me to post some pics from our recent trip to Texas.  Although the trip was for very sad reasons, I am happy to share these shots from my mother-in-law’s lovely garden. After all the tears it was wonderful to play in her whimsical yard. Grace especially had a blast…

She has these huge old oak trees that seem to watch over the garden like gentle giants…

This little stage is actually a vintage day bed that my mother-in-law found on her many antique shopping adventures. Like the old red doors above, she collects precious treasures and finds the perfect spots for them. Grace adored dancing around on “her stage” all afternoon and into the night.

Hope you are having a lovely weekend.

xo,

p.s. If you live in Portland, do not, I repeat do NOT miss the opportunity to check out the incredibly talented women at the Little Winter Market. Tomorrow is the last day!

Forest Light: My Self-Portrait Assignment

Ever since I started showing an interest in photography, my dear hubby promised to rummage through our storage and pull out the old tripod he has from college. I tried not to bug him…but from time to time I would gently mention it. Last night he emerged from his office. A garbage bag in one hand and the tripod in the other. He had spent the evening cleaning out the closets. Good lad.

He handed it to me with a broad grin and said, “Go take some pictures!”

So today, when the beautiful fall light was streaming through the forest that backs our house, I did just that.

Bear with me…I’m new at this and since I had no one around to photograph, I thought a self-portrait was a fair assignment.

I showed these to Grace and she said, “Oh Mommy the light is so beautiful!” I love that kid! Then she asked me if  I was playing hide and seek in the last one. “Are you counting to ten?” she asked. Now, whenever I look at that one I crack up, because she’s right! ha!

I hope to take more photos this weekend. Of course, I’m not expecting sunshine…oh well.

Have a relaxing weekend!

Anahata Katkin – Postcard Tins

Rummaging through the antiques yesterday, I found myself drawn to tins. Tin boxes, tea tins, chocolate tins, candy tins…you get the idea. So when I found these stunning tins by Anahata Katkin, I had to have them. No they are not old, or vintage but they are covered with her beautiful artwork and filled with gorgeous postcards. What great gifts!

Aren’t they yummy!? Go here to order your own! For an extra treat, go visit Anahata’s inspiring and quirky blog.
