Hi friends! Oooh baby it’s cold outside! At least for us Portlanders. I am actually loving the crystal clear sunshine and frost laden mornings. It’s like the very air shimmers with ice. So magical. I am praying for some snow!
Thank you all for your beautiful, kind and thought provoking comments you left on my last post. I deeply appreciate you sharing.
Yesterday and today, I have chosen to put my household chores aside and focus on my art. Every time I do this, I am amazed at the incredibly comforting and joyous feelings it brings. I light my favorite candle, put on Pandora and just let myself escape into my creativity.
Today, was very introspective. I am still completing my Brené Brown homework – one exercise was to find photos of ourselves at different times in our lives and then write a message to “that” girl with the knowledge you have now. I chose my wedding day.
What would you write to yourself now, looking back on those times when you were about to embark on a new journey? So young. So naive. Clueless. Unaware of all the challenges and joys that lay ahead. Blind to the outcomes.
I found this quite emotional and also very healing. It made my appreciate the trials I have been through. It made me glad for the hard days. The pain. The failures. The wrong thinking. It made me have gratitude for the wisdom I’ve gained and for the baggage that was sloughed off as I tumbled through my twenties, like a pebble in the tide. It was powerful to stand solidly on the shore and look back on those turbulent waters of my past.
Try this with a picture of yourself. It doesn’t have to be an art project – just go for it. See what comes up. Be gentle with yourself. This exercise is meant to promote self-compassion so don’t go yelling at yourself in a picture at some frat party, drunk or scold yourself for wearing that God awful outfit from the 80′s or for not losing the baby fat. :) Write to yourself with love, with empathy, with kindness. Give yourself a mental hug. “That” girl in your picture probably really needed it.
P.S. For those of you who wanted to take the Brené Brown class but thought they had missed it – they are repeating the first part so you can still sign up! I just signed up for Part 2! ;)
Can you believe that Valentine’s Day is around the corner already? Time is flying by, as usual. This weekend was spent recovering from the flu but the silver lining was that I got a lot of screen time. Daddy Newport took over the crew and somehow cared for the baby, got Grace to school, took care of me, ran errands, cooked AND worked. You would think he would have turned into a raging grump but nope…he kept his cool. He is rather amazing.
Anyway, enough gushing about my hubby. During my bed rest, I stumbled upon this incredibly talented stylist – Alicia Buszczak. Oh my…her site is pure eye candy. I picked out these gorgeous shots to share with you since they remind me of Valentines Day and love notes…
I just love the different shades of red and the lovely textures of the vintage papers.
Do you have plans for V-Day already?

Hi there and Happy Valentine’s Day! I hope you get to spend time with the ones you love. I will be throwing a little party for my family of three and making mac and cheese as per Grace’s request! She just loves Valentine’s day…since hearts are her favorite. I just got done painting her tiny little nails red with pink sparkles and we laid out her beloved pink dress to wear to school tomorrow. She fell happily into bed with a huge smile on her face. Precious. Don’t you love how excited kids get about simple things?
Of course, it doesn’t take much to make me a bit giddy either. These roses named – “Red Paris“, did the trick and were my inspiration at my book club last week. I hosted and thought it would be lovely to celebrate Valentine’s with the ladies a tad early. It was such fun treating them to champagne and strawberries! I thought I would share the pictures I took that night…
Have a beautiful day filled with LOVE!
Hello there! I’ve been having a bit of “blogger’s block” recently but tonight, I finally sat down and decided to share with you some images that have been floating around in my head for the last week. You see, one of the mom’s at Grace’s school is a horse woman and she has just gotten back into riding. I think that is so fabulous! I’m completely useless on a horse so I always admire those who connect with them! Every time we get one of those perfectly, crisp Autumn mornings, I think of her riding her horse through golden fields and falling leaves. For some reason Autumn and horses just go together don’t they? A bright fall sky, the crunching of leaves, a touch of morning fog, the reds, oranges and yellows, warm sweaters and riding boots…I mean it’s a match made in heaven really. Don’t you think?

I may not be the best on a horse but I can still lust after that equestrian look…
So lady like and refined but still strong. Love it!
This everyday outfit is perfect with just the right amount of equestrian appeal….(click to shop)
Okay, one more horsey pic…I could gaze at these gorgeous creatures all day…
What are you dreaming about on these beautiful Fall days?
Happy Thursday…Friday is almost here.
I couldn’t wait to post pics of this simply stunning living and dining room! This masterpiece was created by The Brooklyn Home Company. They have some serious talent. Enjoy this little peek inside one of their projects but to see more check out their portfolio.
If a gorgeous French woman married a famous explorer this is what their house would look like…
To me, it’s such a unique and lovely blend. Rustic and elegant. Refined but yet, natural. It’s rare I see a room where I love every element! I love the dark leather chair paired with the light linen couch. I love the naturalist prints and wildlife elements. I love the cream moldings and those mirrors. Oh man, those mirrors make me crazy. I love the way the glass and brass tables add a touch of sparkle and light. I could go on and on…and I do…
I seriously love this place, I mean how perfect is that gorgeous French chair next to the rustic stump table? And all the crystal decanters, they add such glamor…don’t even get me started on the wide plank, mocha wood floors…
The dining is also so lovely. The artwork is playful without being over the top and I want those chairs and the bench and the table.
You know what, why don’t I just move in?
Excuse the rambling…I am just so struck by this place.
Okay, deep breath…
What are your favorite design styles?
After living in Portland for eight years, you come to realize that, at times, January and February flirt with Spring like conditions…but, like always, the rain has resumed. As the gray closes in, I found myself drawn to the lovely interiors created by Suzanne Kasler.
I really love the soft, pastel hues in these rooms…reminding me of the first blooms of Spring…
So soothing to the eye…I could look at her rooms all day – imagine living in one! I wish!
To view her amazing portfolio of work check out her site.
Hope you are seeing signs of Spring where you are!
