Music-scape: Into the Light

I’m sick in bed…lame-o. my faithful laptop sits on top of my layer of quilts, keeping my legs toasty and a steaming cup of tea is keeping me company. what to do? listen to music, dive into blogland and create a post.

i don’t know if you are like me but when I listen to music i often see images in my mind. visions, dreams…pictures. they race around my head. creating a landscape for the lyrics and colors for the notes. a whirlwind of scenes. when I was a kid, i often imagined music videos, sketching them out roughly. i used to write to music a lot too. in sixth grade i wrote an entire (kid sized) novel listening to “A Brand New World” from the Aladdin soundtrack! ha. that’s embarrassing and funny now. but then, i was so serious, so focused.

anyway, today i am completely obsessed with Sara Bareilles‘ song – “The Light“.  so, i decided to make a little music-scape and share some images that i feel connected to the song.

Quiet Day

Hello friends. I hope the first week of summer has been good to you. Grace and I are both home sick with a summer cold. Yeah, I know…so annoying…the two words summer and cold don’t belong together at all.

After both seeing the doctor, we’ve spent the day sipping orange juice and doing a massive 1000 piece puzzle. It may have been a tad ambitious. Grace helped for about five seconds and then left me for Curious George and a cuddly quilt on the couch. sigh. The sliver of my personality that is Type A kicked in and I have sat hunched over the damn puzzle for most of the day. Sorting the tiny pieces into color piles. Super exciting.

However, I do have some exciting news to share. One of my photos was featured today on Kim Klassen’s Inspiration Studio! I am so honored! Here it is…

This is a self portrait I did during my Unravelling class with Susannah Conway – which I highly recommend, by the way.

Anyway, it made my day to be featured on such a lovely blog. Kim has the best site and amazing photography tips, online classes and generous freebie textures! Total heaven!

Okay…I’m off to go down some more OJ.

Sunshine & French inspiration

Friday was a perfect day and I found myself out on the back deck sipping a lovely chilled white wine and perusing my new favorite magazine – Marie Claire Idees! My dear friend, Amy was the first to introduce me to this inspiring French publication and I’m hooked for life…look at all the gorgeousness it has to offer. Can I understand a lick of it? Not really, although high school french helps a bit but who cares – a picture is worth a thousand words anyway…

I couldn’t stop snapping pics with my iPhone…so I could share the loveliness with you!

I gathered from the images that they are celebrating their 20 year anniversary! Amazing party ideas included…pure magic! From a whimsical woodland celebration….

To chic tablescapes…

the styling in this magazine is just stunning! I found my copy at Barnes and Noble. There is something very refreshing about foreign magazines…so I encourage you to check this one out for sure…

Hope your weekend is turning out lovely. I’m all alone in the house this morning while Chris and Grace are off on a Father’s Day fishing trip. So cute!

xo,

p.s. I scoured the app store to find this fab photo collage app…you must try it. I created all the content for this post via my iPhone – trying to be a more mobile blogger! :)

Mrs.Tea Cup goes to Finland

Happy Friday everyone! It’s a perfect late spring day here and I’m loving all the sunshine. Today, is Grace’s last day at school and tomorrow she graduates from Pre-K. So cute. They will even have a hat and gown ceremony! Pics to follow…

So, I just got back from the post office, where a kind gentleman helped me fill out custom forms and calculate posting to Finland! Yes, that’s right, I just sold this little tea cup to a lovely woman in Helsinki. (I have four more left).

I always get such a delight connecting with people across the globe. Etsy makes that so easy to do! We emailed each other a few times and she has said she will take a picture of the tea cup when it finds its place in her home. Oh, how I wish I could send myself off to Finland! I’m living vicariously through a piece of porcelain…lol.

Isn’t she sweet? I found her and her buddies on the dusty shelves of a thrift store – just waiting to be loved. The pattern dates back to the 1930’s and she was made in England by the Myott Staffordshire company. There’s a little history…now let’s take a peek into her future…what will she see in this beautiful Nordic country?

Bustling city life…stunning architecture…sailboats…

vast blue skies…ancient forests…winding mountain roads…fabulous interior design (they are just so good at it!)….oh and nordic tea pots…hello.

I wonder what table she will grace…what stories will she overhear? Whose hands will she warm? I know I must sound a little nuts…but it’s fun to imagine what an object witnesses…if it could actually witness things…ok, you get my drift…I think all the sun is getting to me. Let’s just hope the mounds of bubble wrap and peanuts gets her to Finland in one piece! Fingers crossed!

Have a fabulous, fun-filled weekend!

Canopies to adore

With summer approaching, I often think back to my childhood in Sydney, during the steamy hot months! We had no air conditioning and the nights could be rather uncomfortable to say the least. I remember laying perfectly still, sweat rolling down my forehead as the fan made a hypnotic whirring – its cool breeze, my only comfort. The cicadas would be singing a chorus and I would gaze up through the gauzy mist of the mosquito net that floated all around me. It looked so pretty in the moonlight.

Ever since then, I have a thing for canopies…they are a bit magical to me and my Grace has had one over her bed since the day she was born…see…

I thought I’d round up a few more canopied masterpieces to inspire you…

the perfect spot for tea and a good book…

I adore the peach tones in this room…lovely and ladylike.

shades of sky blue evoke such peace and calm…

this one is just plain dreamy…I would spend all day there.

and how simple is this? Pull the cushions off your outdoor lounge and make yourself a summer tent…yum.

Love this vintage lace curtain with tassels. So romantic…

Beds aren’t the only things that deserve the royal canopy treatment…what about your bath? Instant drama!

See why I love them so much…

Hope your week is going well.

Milk Glass obsession

Hello friends! I hope your Monday went smoothly. Mine was rather busy but very productive, which is always good. I also got to package up my first sale from my new Vintage Shoppe on Etsy – very exciting! Some lovely lady purchased a piece of vintage milk glass and I’m sure she will just love it. There is nothing better than discovering a beautiful object that has been discarded and finding someone new to adore it. It’s warm and fuzzy up-cycling and I’m totally digging it. So, today I thought I would show you just how GORGEOUS milk glass can look…

Like most collections, milk glass can make a stunning impact when grouped together. White on white is so very chic right now….

Filled with flowers – milk glass looks just divine…

Or how about some sweet succulents?

I love how flexible it is…it can be formal or casual. Romantic or sleek. Its style blends effortlessly with any decor…

It has a timeless beauty that is hard to ignore…so yes, I admit…I’m obsessed and I’m collecting like a mad woman…of course I can’t keep all my finds to myself…come take a peek at the pieces I have waiting for you…

What do you love to collect?
