A NEW way to create

Hello creative friends!

It’s a snowy day here and I’m just getting ready to start painting but before I do, I wanted to drop in and say hello and share some art with you.

The students in Between Shadow & Light are making some amazing discoveries and creating such beautiful, soulful portraits! I’m completely thrilled to hear they are learning that their non-dominant hand has much to offer and can open up a NEW way to engage in their creativity.

An Art Tutorial for you!

Hello friends!

Happy New Year! I hope your 2017 is off to a beautiful start.

I have been very busy preparing lessons for my new class and I was challenged by a fellow artist to create a piece of art inspired by one of her wonderful ballet photographs. I couldn’t resist, so here it is! In my usual style, she goes through several transitions. I worked quickly and loosely with both my dominant and non-dominant hands. I hope you enjoy.

NEW Online Portrait Class

Hello there creatives,

I’m thrilled to announce that registration for my BRAND NEW CLASS is now OPEN.  I’ve had so many requests to teach my expressive portrait techniques, so I’ve finally created this mini portrait class.

I believe that sometimes less is more with portraits. Some of the most expressive work is created with simple materials and often times a lack of color. The focus becomes emotion, line, form and of course shadow and light. These portraits pull us in, make us stop in our tracks and feel!

A Free Mixed Media Tutorial

Hello lovelies!

How’s it going? Hope all is well in your part of the world!

In the past couple of weeks, I’ve had the most amazing opportunities to meet some on my online friends in real life! I am continually amazed at the beautiful and real connections that form over the internet and the wonderful opportunities that emerge from those connections!

One online friend I would love to meet, is the fabulous Donna Downey! You can imagine how honored I was when she asked me to create a Mixed Media Tutorial for her blog! Woo! So fun! She featured it a few weeks back but I wanted to share it with you guys too, in case you missed it.

This piece is called “Into the Light” and it is a process of stenciling, paint, collage and encaustic wax! And yes, even some sculpture. I hand made her wings with paper, wire and wax.
