Online Mixed Media Workshop – Shades of White

Hello there!

I hope your Monday morning is going well! I was up with the birds and on my second cup of coffee already! Yes, I’m a little excited because today I’m launching my very last class for 2015!

Shades of White ButtonLet me fill you in…

Come join me for this one week Online Mixed Media workshop where we explore the beauty and subtlety of white and neutrals! When we strip away color – texture, contrast and ultimately design and composition come to the forefront. We will focus on these artistic aesthetics as we complete three beautifully unique projects:

  • A “Zen Abstract” Encaustic Wax Collage using vintage and handmade papers with a focus on balance, simplicity, unity and tranquility.
  • A beautiful “Woman in White” Portrait, inspired by Whistler’s painting “Symphony of White I” using acrylic paint and soft chalk pastels while exploring a multitude of milky hues and lessons on drawing the face and figure.
  • A “White Horses on the Horizon” landscape painting incorporating, pattern, texture and finally cold wax to create a dreamy finish.

I’m beyond thrilled to share these projects with you! Plus, these creations would make amazing gifts for your loved ones! Just in time for the holidays!

Read more about the class* and register here! Classroom opens Dec 1**.

*As with my last class, there will a limited number of seats and registration will close once it fills to maximum occupancy.

**You will have lifetime access to the classroom so if you are too busy this December then tuck this one away to do after the holidays. A perfect way to decompress!

Have a beautiful, creative week!

With much love and gratitude,

Let’s Face It: Inspired by Portraits

Hello creative friends!

How is your week treating you? I hope all is well in your world.

You may or may not have noticed that I’ve been a little obsessed lately…and not just with Art in general but in particular – Portraiture! I’ve always loved drawing faces but recently its become a daily practice of pushing myself, striving for more accuracy, expression and depth. I’m exploring techniques and mediums like never before and after I complete one face I quickly begin another.

All this energy has sprung forth for a couple of reasons…but the MAIN one is because I accepted an opportunity to teach on the Let’s Face It Online workshop! This year has been about growth, so I’ve said YES to the wonderful doors that are opening to me! However, I had no idea what an impact this would have on my own deep desire to hone my skills and better my practice as an Artist.

Here is some of the work I’ve been doing to prepare to teach this class

It started with black and white charcoal studies…

and has now led me to color too…looks like I’m a teensy bit in LOVE with my new Sennelier Soft Pastels!!!

I’m enjoying the feeling of a challenge and there is nothing better than feeling yourself expand! This class will be so wonderful. I do hope you will join me and the other talented teachers for this fantastic Portraiture class!

I can’t wait to share some of my own techniques and creative processes! Click here to learn more! Don’t miss out of the early registration price too! It ends Dec.1st!

Flight & Feather Round Two

Hello there!

Hope you are all doing well! We survived Halloween and even managed to donate most of the candy, leaving us with a more reasonable stash. My kids disagree but seriously – there is only so much candy one needs lying about! Now, as for art supplies – that’s another story! One can never have too much as far as I’m concerned! ;)

Speaking of art, I’m so excited to share just some of the gorgeous student work from the first week of Flight & Feather! My students never cease to amaze and inspire me!

Go here to learn more and register or simply click the button below! I am limiting my class size again, so now’s the time to join us bird/art lovers for this two week mixed media and encaustic class with lifetime access!

Here’s a little sneak peek at just a some of the projects we will be doing…

It’s all in the Palette…

Hello there!

Hope your week is going well! It’s almost Friday and then Halloween! My kids are crazy excited. I’m a little less so – it looks like it will be raining here, so we’ll be flipping a coin for who stays in and doles out candy and who leads the little ones around the neighborhood, umbrellas in tow!

Today, I have a beautiful treat for you. Have you ever wondered what a famous artists’ palette looks like? Well photographer, Matthias Schaller did and he captured these beautiful and historical “portraits” of just that! Such a rare treasure to see these! I’ve paired the images of the palettes with some of the artists’ work so we can witness the connection between palette and painter…

toulous lautrec

JOhn Singer Sargent

vincent van gogh

edgar degas

marc chagall

Isn’t that so fascinating to see? I just love being able to see the same hand on the palette as we do on the canvas. To see the entire exhibit of palettes go here.

Do you ever take pictures of your own palette? They can be quite beautiful!

Enjoy the rest of your week!
