Art Journals to Adore

Hello there. I’m so excited I can hardly sit still. I just signed up to attend this retreat in May 2014! Eeek! I’m scared and incredibly happy at the same time – which I know is a good sign I’m doing something that I truly want to do. A long weekend, on Bainbridge Island creating art with 10 other women – it’s gonna be total bliss! Plus, I’m going to actually meet one of my favorite online art teachers – Jeanne Oliver! Feeling very blessed.

Anyways, I’ve been working more frequently in my art journal. Picking it up casually and sketching or jotting down a thought. It’s becoming a little addictive. I was on Pinterest gathering jouranling inspiration and I thought I would show you some of my favorites. Just gorgeous…

So inspiring right? I just got this book to help me get more creative with hand lettering too. Love it.

I’m off to go work in mine.

Have a beautiful Friday and a lovely weekend.

Ivy

Brene Brown E-Course : The Gifts of Imperfection

Hi there friends! How are you? I hope the week has been treating you well. I’m slowly coming out of my creativity slump by doing mundane things like gutting my closet. It was a spiritual experience. Seriously. I removed 9 bags of old clothes, shoes and miscellaneous junk! It’s embarrassing to admit but I had stuff in there from college…yeah…sad, I know. Now, when I walk into my closet I feel like I can breathe. So…in celebration of my closet cleanse, I signed up for this. Go check it out if you have no time for shopping/get overwhelmed or just want a lovely treat delivered to your door! I loved it!

Clearing old stuff brings in new energy and I’ve decided to help the process along by taking the new Brene Brown & Oprah E-course, which is accompanied by Brene’s best selling book. I have had her book on my bedside for over a year. Just laying there. Waiting for me to pick it up and grow. Plus, the fact that this course involves art journaling really sealed the deal for me! I’m excited and I encourage you to check it out if you are feeling stuck in your own journey. Class starts Oct. 20th! Come join me!

Hope you all have a beautiful rest of the week!

xo,

Ivy

Creatively Made: Mixed Media Portrait

Hi all! Been super busy with life and trying to fit in time to create too! A tricky balance, that frequently required late night sessions making a healthy mess of paint, paper, and glue in my studio. I have finally completed another project from the Creatively Made¬† e-course and I’m pretty pleased with the outcome. I have to admit, I am very, very rusty with my acrylic paints. Several times, I had to put down this piece and walk away frustrated. I would hang the unfinished canvas on the wall next to my desk and periodically gaze at it…looking for answers. They came…but it took time.

This project started the same as the others but this time, incorporating more color. Using a mix of vintage papers and scrapbook paper, I created the background, unifying it with layers of paint.

It was funny painting late into the night, listening to music and feeling my little baby kick inside me, almost encouraging me to keep going. I have started calling her my “Art Baby”. I haven’t painted in over ten years and somehow, I feel like she has filled me with the courage to pick up my brush again. It’s a good feeling.

I really love adding 3-D details like the lace, gems and pearls. I can’t believe I never blended collage and painting in art school! I was missing out!

Next, we have to do a self-portrait! Yikes! I’m excited to try though. We will also be making Santos dolls, which looks like a fabulous project! I will keep you posted.
