Create Art on your iPhone

Hello! How is everyone doing?

Life has been hectic around here but it’s all good! I’ve been busy working on getting my first online Mixed Media & Encaustic class launched! It was a fantastic success and I am so beyond grateful to have a wonderful class of artists! You should see the work they are already creating! Blows me away!

But…I’ve also had other things in the works!

The lovely Jeanne Oliver has invited me to create a new class for her abundant online creative network and I couldn’t be more pleased to oblige!

So, I’ve decided to create another digital art class – but this time for the iPhone – called Mobile Art Magic!

static1.squarespaceSo what’s all this about you might ask? Well let me tell you a little about the class

Our iPhones have become an integral part of our daily lives. We carry them with us at all times – we don’t leave home without them! So…why shouldn’t we be using them creatively too? You can make beautiful, rich art right on your iPhone! Sure you could play Candy Crush….OR you could use your passion for Art and create something you love!

Expand your knowledge of color, experiment with composition and use your own photography to compose stunning, layered pieces of ART! Print them out and hang them on your walls!

Here are a few of the creations I’ve made using only my iPhone!

From landscapes to self-portraits! Don’t underestimate the power of that iPhone in your pocket!

This one week course will give you the knowledge of which apps to use and how to combine them to achieve gorgeous results!

I’m so excited to be launching this class on Jeanne’s wonderful network.

Early Registration will begin July 7th, 2015 and the class will open September 21, 2015!

She shares all about how she uses the iPad to not only create gorgeous digital art but how she incorporates it into here artistic practice as a learning and exploratory tool.

Her teaching video shows you how she takes a sketch from her easel, into her iPad to make corrections and changes and then how she applies that new knowledge back to the original sketch! Very cool!! Go take a peek!

iPad Art Overdose

Hello all!

I hope you are well! I’ve been very busy finishing up my work for the Studying Under the Masters III class! I’ve learned so much from being Marie Laurencin’s virtual apprentice!

Screen Shot 2015-04-10 at 11.08.05 AM

I’m so excited for it to begin May 5th! There is still time to sign up! Go here to register and come create with me! Or click below to purchase.

In between shooting videos, editing and being a mom, I sneak in time to create art on my iPad. I don’t always have the luxury (or time) to pull out all my art supplies and spend hours creating but my iPad gives me the art hit I need with no mess, no waste and it’s simple to put it down and tend to my responsibilities (a two-year old who constantly needs snacks) and then pick it right back up and keep making art. Here are some of my most recent creations…

I’ve really enjoyed doing some of these whimsical portraits with animals…

Newport_ Lady Crow

balavati

catlady

goldenhorse

Madame Violet & her dog

Newport_Forest Guardians

And some self portrait fun using my own photography…

And even doing some landscapes/cityscapes and more experimental stuff that I don’t usually do…

this one I made entirely on my iPhone…

If you happen to have an iPad or an iPhone consider playing with some of the many creative apps available. Using the power of technology is an amazing and powerful way to explore art, your creativity and further develop your style and composition with NO risk! Don’t like something – Just click UNDO. Gotta love that! ;)

The apps I recommend are Procreate, Repix, icolorama, Brushstroke, DistressedFX and Stackables. There are many others but these are my favs right now.

Much love to you! Keep creating!

The Artist I have chosen is Marie Laurecin.

She is a fascinating and rather overlooked Master who hung with a pretty fab Artsy crowd…ya know…like…Georges Braque, Pablo Picasso, Gertrude Stein, Henri Rousseau and French poet and “father of surrealism” Guillaume Apollinaire.  Her work speaks to a deliberate and beautiful contrast to the cubist movement that her friends were so inspired by. Although often referred to as a rare female cubist, her work quickly derailed from this and evolved into a rather primitive, elegant and feminine style – where line and form blur, languid female forms and doe eyed faces tell little of emotion but rather evoke a state of ambivalence and mystery.

During my week of study with you, we will explore not only Marie’s personal history but her varied use of mediums, techniques and artistic methods. She mastered watercolors, inks, pencil studies as well as oils! Her works move from being cubist inspired to a place infused with inspiration from the Rococo period, Persian art, fashion and ballet. She was an illustrator, painter, portrait artist, set & costumer designer and muse to one of Paris’ most influential poets! A truly talented and powerful woman who I know you will love to study! I have planned for a super-inspired week chock full of learning, exploring and most importantly stretching beyond our artistic comfort zones! :) Get ready to truly feel what it is like to be an apprentice to a world renown artist right from the lovely comfort of your own home! Pretty sweet right?

So you might be curious…what are others saying about the Studying Under the Masters Course? Read on my friends…

Praise for the Masters series…

“In all my years as an artist, I have never had a course that stretched and grew me so much. Not only has my art taken off in so many exciting ways, but I was blessed with friendship and support I never expected. Thanks for all that you do. I am so looking forward to part two!”
-Renee

“The Studying the Masters class inspired me to look deeper into my own art process. The format where I was able to find out more about the artist’s process and their techniques captured my attention. The presenting artists were quality women whose own art process gave me confidence to keep going. I look forward to the next class.”
-Linda

“This course is one of the best I have taken in that it introduced me to several different modern day artists. In watching how they studied under some masters, I became a student of, not one, but TWO artists each week, some of whom I feel a real resonance with!! I feel as though I am finding more of my artistic voice as a result of this class, and that is pretty exciting!! Thanks so much Jeanne for helping me take another step closer to my dream! ”
-Silvia

“The best class ever no matter your talent level…seeing the instructors paint right along in  “their” style of painting trying to get close to what a Master created was so enlightening since each had awesome talent but different ways to get the final results that they wanted! We were in their studio with there favorite supplies, magic!”
-Tari

100 Faces

Hello there lovelies! How are you?

Well…I gotta tell you…I’m absolutely loving Fall. I think it might be my favorite season. I’ve been cozying up in my home and creating A LOT of Art! I recently met a wonderful local artist via Instagram. We met for coffee at my favorite French cafe and we hit it off immediately. She’s a total hoot and we got to geek out on all things Art. I even got to create together in her studio yesterday! Total bliss!

Screen Shot 2014-11-07 at 12.58.21 PM

She got me inspired to join a little Art movement called 100 Faces. Many artists have done this but the group I follow was started by Sharon Tomlinson. It’s not really all that formal…just a general challenge to create 100 portraits- one a day. It seemed daunting but I decided I was up for it and started 10 days ago. Can I just tell you how amazing it has been?!

Finding time to truly practice Art is rather difficult for me with two little ones, a household to run and a hubby to keep happy but this wonderful commitment has already worked wonders for me. Will I actually get to 100? Who knows but I’m loving it right now so we’ll just have to see.

There is a loving, vibrant and supportive community for this challenge online too – full of talented artists pushing themselves and inspiring us all. You can find this group via Facebook and Instagram (#onehundredfaces #onehundredfacestribe or #100faces). Looking back at my first ten – do I love them all? Nope. But – I can see my growth. I’m painting in water mixable oils and loving them. I am starting to see forms in faces that I had not noticed before and being able to translate those forms into dabs of paint in various values is a priceless skill.  One I hope to master some day. For now…I’ll just take it a day at time.

Here are some of my favorites so far…

Had to do a Frida she is my #9. I’m studying her in Jeanne Oliver’s Studying under the Masters online class! Loving it!

Oh and this Nature nymph was created for Jeanne’s other online class – Woodland girls. She was actually painted on a wood slice that I picked up at Michaels. Loved doing this one!

If you are looking to improve your faces and enjoy a lively, helpful and inspiring online group of artists! I highly recommend taking up the challenge! It’s free and it’s fun! Let me know if you decide to start! I would love to follow your progress.

Much love to you all,

Ivy

P.S. Quick reminder that my Mixed Media Workshop on December 6 is filling up! If you want to reserve your seat go here to register! It’s gonna be a fun filled weekend! I’m opening up my home on Sunday morning too for an Open Studio session! Can’t wait to create with some amazing souls!

Art Love : Marie Laurencin

Hello friends,

How’s life? Hope you are enjoying the changing of the seasons. I do so love Fall!

I’ve been taking the online course – “Studying under the Masters” with Jeanne Oliver and I’m eating up all the information and reveling in the feeling of artistic growth! Along the path of studying, my thoughts were brought back to an artist that I love but never truly researched before – Marie Laurencin.

She was a French painter (1883-1956) and lived in Paris for most of her life. She hung out with other powerful artists of the time including, Pablo Picasso, Jean Metzinger, Albert Gleizes, Robert Delaunay, Henri le Fauconnier and Francis Picabia. She was celebrated as one of the few female Cubist painters. Her style only emulates the elements of Cubism early on and quickly fades after World War 1.

bd0aaafad85c57e30f94b17c5ae6fed6Her style moves toward an ethereal look of soft colors, gentle curving shapes and doe eyed female figures. These resonate a beautiful feminine power and grace – a serenity and grounded energy that I find captivating. I had the pleasure of seeing her work at the Musée de l’Orangerie in Paris when I was there in 2012. I feel deeply in love with her work.  What do you think?

One of the most important things I have learned from this online course is to NEVER EVER stop learning about Art. It feeds my soul and is such a wellspring for inspiration and growth.

If you are in a rut, creatively, I encourage you to research a favorite artist, experiment with a medium you’ve never used before or sign up for an online Art course! Don’t give up on your creativity just because you’ve hit a wall. Find a rope and climb over it! Be open to your potential and trust your path.

xo,

Ivy
