Here’s a little backstory… ;)

I’ve always been enamored with words. When I was a teenager, I used to have poetry wars with my Dad and my journal is full of them! He would write one, then me and so on. We each had to take a line or a theme from the poem before. It was great fun and I discovered how incredible it can be to connect poetry to images. I often created art from my poems or vice versa!

Art and Poetry are a heavenly match. Words and colors. Stanzas and brushstrokes. Verses and imagery. A beautiful relationship that blends seamlessly with the atmospheric wax and plaster work that Petra and I love to do!

I invite you to come learn more about this very special class. Click below to read all about the gorgeous projects! Learn to combine your love of words into stunning and soulful artwork!

Art to Adore – Dan McCaw

Hello! I hope this post finds you well!

I know its been a little while since I’ve shared some yummy Art to Adore but I’m here to make up for it with a delicious sampling of work from the incredibly talented and insightful Dan McCaw.

He’s kinda my new artist crush. Shh…don’t tell anyone. lol. ;)

I even tracked down his out of print book and forked over for a small fortune for it. (Worth every penny.) His words take me back to studying in art school and has brought to the forefront, knowledge and training that I had stashed away and even rebelled from. He makes me feel like a hungry student again – a feeling I yearn for.

Ok…I’ll stop gushing.

First, here is a video interview that reveals what an inspiring mind this man possesses. Enjoy..

And here are some of my favorite paintings by Dan…

378691_319010454796984_100000640957580_993546_1755011751_n-2387839_297073066990723_100000640957580_929821_246594203_n-1d3fdaab262486f015d426ac3bf18ddd4d84e5ef473cdf0d4e5fe19d7128d92d2tumblr_mj2jehZCIc1qaqz2jo1_500tumblr_mj35xs60Gq1qaqz2jo1_500

Aren’t they just beautiful? So poetic in the way he suggests certain elements but leaves out others. I think there is such a beauty in allowing the viewer to fill in the blanks…it leaves room for interpretation. An openness to emotion and deep meaning. What do you think?

You can see more of his work on my shrine… ah…I mean my Pinterest board dedicated to him. ;)

I hope you enjoyed.

Ask Ivy – the Inner Critic & Life Balance

Hi there readers,

How’s life been treating you? We are still recovering from the long weekend and are headed into a heat wave here in Portland! Yikes!

I have managed to stay cool in the studio and just finished shooting my next “Ask Ivy” episode. In this one, I answer a couple of questions about the inner-critic and finding (or not finding) balance in my life ;) …check it out…

So here are a couple of books I would like to recommend on these topics that are sitting next to my bed…

Love this guy’s whole belief that we are not actually after balance but rather satisfaction! I like that he de-mystifies the life-work balance concept…especially since it eludes me! lol!

And this one just arrived on my doorstep. It is pretty, inviting and full of wonderful ideas, inspiration and creative ways that we can work with our inner critic…

Hope you have a beautiful Wednesday!
